The cow herd that makes up Vollmer Angus is managed much the same as area commercial producers manage their cow herds. It is a no frills operation that is culled heavily for disposition, mothering ability, performance and reproductive excellence. The cow herd is turned onto tame grass pastures in late April or early May to prepare the cows for AI breeding for 21 days. They are then turned onto native grasslands until heavy snowfall occurs. At this time the cows are fed forages that were harvested at Vollmer Angus during the summer months. Calving begins on March 1 and continues to May 1. The top 65% of the bull calves born are developed for our annual bull sale while the remaining steer progeny are marketed and carcass data is collected. Females are available private treaty and through our annual production sale.
